In 1949, China established the People's Republic in China(PRC), which caused a change that forced China and Japan to work together more and be more dependent on each other. Then in the 1960's Soviet officials and experts left the PRC, causing economic problems, which later on led to more and more economic relations and interactions with Japan. China became concerned with the re-militarization of Japan due to the reduction of U.S. military involvement in Japan. In 1973-1974 the PRC and Japan agreed to reestablish diplomatic relations and negotiated on a peace treaty, but broke it off a year later. Then in 1976, Mao Zedong's death called for economic reforms, which led to the involvement of Japan in Chinese economy. During the late 1990's- early 2000's, trade and relations sparked again, due to the PRC joining the World Trade Organization(WTO).
