Originally I was planning to pick a topic that had something to do with Korea and its history because it sounded like an easy option that my parents could help me with. However, I realized that I already knew enough about Korea and its history and that doing a project on something that I was already familiar with would have no educational use to me. So instead I thought about which countries had had a significant impact upon Korea and just the Asian continent in general. I also thought about which units I had found interesting in the history class and I came to settle upon China and Japan as they were both countries that had very unique histories and cultures. I also took into consideration that both of these countries were countries that I might travel to in the future. The topic also sounded relatively easy to study because there's a lot of information on the two major Asian countries. After I had picked which countries I wanted to base my project around I picked the topic of how both countries had changed and interacted with one another over 5 time periods because it sounded like it could provide me with a lot of information to work with. I knew how Korea had interacted with the two countries and knowing how the two countries interacted with one another sounded interesting.
The reason why I chose to make a website was because I had already been writing a research paper in English and I thought that making a website wouldn't be as boring. I needed skills such as being able to create an annotated bibliography, incorporate all my research into my work, and being able to stay awake and on task. Without these three skills I probably wouldn't have been able to finish my project by the time I had to leave. I learned about the exchanges, history, and encounters between China and Japan and also how to make a website on Weebly. I have a feeling that this project will help me a lot in the future when I need to work on something related to either of the two countries. It may also help to know about the history of the two countries if I ever visit them.
One of the challenges I found while I was researching for this essay was that it was very hard to find a source that had little bias. I know that every article and website has some sort of bias or opinion but I was looking to find a source that could provide me information that wasn't contorted to favor one of the two countries more than the other. Another challenge that I had was that even I also found myself choosing a side or having a strong opinion on what I was writing about because there was a lot of information that related to Korea. However, I tried my best to keep a neutral stance while writing. Other then these two challenges the research and process of making the website was fairly straightforward and simple.
